Brazilian Augmentation
(Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL)
In recent years popular culture and fashion trends have propelled the Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, as one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery.
The goals of BBL are to create an attractive contour to the bottom by selectively sculpting and lifting the bottom. A properly performed BBL addresses the hip to waist ratio, which is ideally 0.7, and augments the upper portion of the gluteal area. I do not subscribe to the idea that a BBL is an overly augmented and exaggerated bottom – rather a properly performed BBL restores a youthful and shapely contour to the bottom.
The final result of the BBL should be similar to the effect achieved when wearing high-heeled shoes. That is to say, the pelvis is tilted forward thus elevating the derriere to create an attractive lift.
I frequently combine the BBL with treatment of the trunk, the region of the torso between the pelvis and the chest. This often entails Liposuction treatment of the abdomen, hips and flanks. In addition to restoring harmony to proportions, these areas represent areas where fat necessary to augment the bottom is obtained.
In cases where there is insufficient fat to achieve the desired lift and augmentation of the bottom, it is possible to use specially designed silicone implants in the place of fat.
One should consider a BBL for the following reasons:
- To create a youthful and shapely bottom
- To increase projection and lift of the bottom
- To satisfy the desire for an augmented bottom
- As part of an overall makeover to improve harmony of the body.
BBL is performed at Accredited Surgical Centers under general anesthesia. Clients are discharged home once they have recovered from anesthesia – usually within a few hours from the completion of surgery. Specialized Compression Garments are applied at the conclusion of surgery in order to protect the Fat Transfer and provide mechanical support.
I recommend resuming walking as soon as possible after surgery. It is important not to sit on the bottom for approximately 7-10 days following surgery and instructions are provided on how to sit and rest during the convalescence.
In order to determine if you are a candidate for BBL, please arrange a personal consultation at the Reddy Aesthetic Institute.
