Injectable treatments for facial rejuvenation are a minimally invasive technique for achieving facial rejuvenation by softening lines, restoring volume, and lifting tissue. Injectables are frequently the first aesthetic medical treatments that many clients elect to undergo.
Injectable treatments include the neuromodulators (Dysport and Botox) and the soft tissue fillers or volumizers – such as Restylane and Sculptra.
Dysport & Botox
Neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport have become household brands. I recommend treatments such as Dysport or Botox as a treatment of wrinkles that result from facial animation. Brow lines, laugh lines, and frown lines are easily treated with Dysport or Botox. In addition, by altering the balance between muscles of facial expression, it is possible to create lifts such as an attractive arch to the brow.
Dysport and Botox treatments are performed in the office under aseptic conditions. At your initial consultation, you will be interviewed to determine the areas that are of concern to you. The treatment is administered over a matter of minutes and most clients resume their usual activities almost immediately. Bruising and swelling, while possible, are uncommon occurrences. The dreaded lid ptosis or “droopy eye” is exceedingly rare. Results are seen as early as 2-days and the full effect should be apparent by 7-days. At the Reddy Aesthetic Institute we practice Inject to Effect philosophy and any necessary touch-ups within 10-days are complimentary.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a sugar protein that attracts water and creates volume in the skin and other tissues. HA is a naturally occurring compound available as brands such as Restylane and Juvaderm etc.
HA Fillers are used to restore volume in the mid-face thus reversing the natural volume loss in fat pads and bone that occurs as a result of the aging process. They may also be used to correct moderate to deep lines such the NL-Fold – the line from the nose to the corner of the mouth. HA Fillers are frequently used for the treatment of the Tear Troughs – the hollow that develops below the eyes.
A more sophisticated approach in the application of HA Fillers is the application as a lifting agent. With loss of volume, the soft tissue of the face naturally gravitate downwards. The studied and strategic application of HA Fillers may restore volume in a manner that lifts tissue and it is possible to achieve a non-invasive brow lift.
Lip augmentation is a frequently requested procedure in our practice and we prefer HA Fillers to achieve the result. The aging lip is characterized by lengthening of the white lip and thinning of the Red Lip. By restoring volume to the lip, the entire face is rejuvenated. One may choose to undergo lip augmentation simply to increase overall attractiveness and not as a rejuvenating procedure. It is important to recognize the harmony of the lips and the face as well as to respect naturally occurring ratios. For example, the lower lip is typically 1.5 x wider than the upper lip in a Caucasian face. When these standards are deviated, the result is the “fat lips.”
Sculptra is a complex sugar molecule that stimulates collagen formation when injected into or below the dermis of the skin. Sculptra acts by a different mechanism than the HA Fillers in restoring facial volume and the best effects are achieved with a series of at least three treatments at 4-week intervals. Although the results take longer to achieve, they are more durable.
