Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels
Peels are an excellent treatment for rejuvenating the skin and restoring a fresh appearance.
Peels are designed to gently remove the very outer layers of the skin while stimulating a healing and regenerative response in the deeper layers. They are a form of resurfacing along the lines of LASER resurfacing but using chemicals instead of light energy. A variety of Chemical Peels are available at RAI depending on the client’s specific goals and expectations for downtime.
VI Peels™
VI Peels are the most popular peels offered at RAI and are phenol-based. VI Peels are suitable for all skin types and are a comfortable application. A post-peel care protocol is included and easy to follow.
I describe the VI Peel as our most democratic peel since they have wide appeal regardless of skin complexion. Specialized peels for acne are available within the VI Family of peels.
Maximum peeling occurs at 3-5 days following application with results apparent soon after peeling stops.
TCA Peels
TCA is Trichloroacetic Acid and is a chemical related to vinegar. TCA Peels denature the outer epidermis and may penetrate into the superficial dermis depending on the concentration – usually 25%.
A frosted appearance to the skin is the result of proper application and the post-care is more involved than lighter peels. After care requires the frequent application of an occlusive hydrating agent such as Aquaphore. Results are apparent at 1-week following treatment.
Hetter Peels
The Hetter/Bensimon Peel is a Phenol and Croton Oil peel and the strongest peel we offer. It is a modification of the Baker Peel that many of you may be familiar with. The Hetter Peel is suitable for clients seeking a more dramatic result and is an excellent option for deep established wrinkles or leathery sun damaged skin.
The Hetter Peel consists of applications of different strengths of the compound to different areas of the face thus avoiding patch hypopigmentation. It’s proper application results in frosting and it penetrates to the level of the superficial dermis. It requires a regional anesthetic of the face during administration and results are apparent 10-14 days following treatment. Clients are provided with detailed post-care instructions. I have learned this technique directly from Dr. Bensimon.
In order to determine which peel will benefit you the most, please arrange for a consultation at the Reddy Aesthetic Institute.
